wolf new age

Post by 3d-dade »

OK the next installment. Wolf... This was quite hard getting the feel of the wolves's fur getting it not to look like a puppet or a mask. Once I added some colouring changes from root to tip and a couple of different layers basicly a short ,long and whiskers. it started to come to life. Therese allot going on in wolves fur but hair farm pulled it off.
2 days on this now, just finishing the rest of his body for use in other projects.
This is a 7000pix render it took around 10 Min's. At the beginning of this series I done a gorilla with the max hair and fur it took 8 hours!!!

Hope you like.
David.

No Probs, not sure of the best way to show you ... as I am just linking to the gallery page that Cem has posted. I haven't set a page on my web site yet to do links to.

By the way I'm a fan of your work I know how much go's into doing realistic people, there you can't get away with as mush as whith animals. I have brought an ir model before exellent.!

Hi David, thanks for your kind words. I remember you from the store, thank for your support.

How have you found Hair-Farm? was it easy for you to learn?

For shots of your hair models you can set your HairModifier WSM at the top of the stack to show the hair model mesh, I just do screen grabs or print screen and poast in Photoshop, arrange clean up and save and then attach here in a post.

I would love to see your setups for the hair, they look SOO complex, it's mind boggling. You must have allot of patience.

Cheers guys,
To be fair the 8 hours was a mental ray render with hair and fur but still even doing test renders Small were a pain. Knowing I had to create a few of the portates I couldn't stomach it. Hair farm is just so much quicker and the brush tool so simple.
Anish, Seeing your wolf character is what made me decide to get it. I am always doing animals in projects and end up faking the fur with maps and p-shop as I never had the time it took setting up and doing massive renders with hair and fur. Its great now having a usable tool that doesn't take for ever to get great results.
Did you just use the brush for your wolfy or do you use the modelling route?
Thanks agin for your comments.

Those animals are fantastic. I remember I tried to do a wolf like 6-7 years ago, but the result was... well, I prefer not to remeber it. Anyway, those renders really inspire me to try it again.

Very cool Wolf, I prefer the Wolf and Tiger over the Gorilla, although he is still cool : ) great attention to detail here. Can't wait to see the wolf in motion, and some of those tech shots of the wires and hair mesh structure.

Thanks David! Feels real good to read that :) But you've taken it altogether to the next level. :ok:
I started with the brush and then took the modelling route. 3 different hair objects were used (head, neck and body) and quite some map work on color, density etc.
Can we know your process?

I did wonder as it looks very precise.
So Far I have just used the brush tool with masks controlling the density and amount of kink etc.
The tiger was one sculpt but the wolf was esier to have a short hair and a long hair modifier in the stack so I could use different masks, also a one for the whiskers.
